We are taken aback by the beauty and elegance of ‘Allta’. A heartfelt homage to the Irish music tradition, the album signals Fourwinds’ return to the global scenes, offering a sizeable slice of work that greatly showcases the commitment to their authentic Irish folk roots and vibrant storytelling. Europe calls it celtic, we might call it Irish: what matters is the fiddles and acoustic extravaganza giving it such a powerful and nostalgic aura.
Fourwinds also incorporate a larger array of native, traditional instrumentation, such as flutes, uillean pipes, whistles and a bodhrán. ‘Up and Away in the Morning’ is the perfect example of that, an episode that many would define as ‘mediaeval’. Elsewhere, the album also takes a slightly different direction, such as the vocal-based, playful effort ‘The Great Big Roaming Ass’.
Fourwinds are Tom Delany, Caroline Keane and Robbie Walsh, with ‘Allta’ also featuring guest musicians Alan Murray, Laura Kerr and Barry Kerr. Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, the group explains: “‘Allta’ is more than just a collection of tracks—it is a celebration of friendship, musical growth, and the unyielding joy that comes from playing wild, untamed music together.”
Look out for Fourwinds’ upcoming tour – coming to a city near you!
