We certainly did not forget about Judas Goat & the Bellwether. Writing about their previous effort ‘There Is Always a Dawn’ not long ago, we proudly described it as “built on legendary, fierce folk stylings, flourishing within elegant settings”. We stand by our words: the song was incredibly hypnotising and cathartic, with meaningful and hard-hitting lyricism leaving listeners inspired and curious.
Now, the talented duo returns with their second release to date, ‘Ghosts in The Sand’. In it, we find the same vivid, Folk-flavoured energy the project is known for, yet with a more melancholic outlook. Also, the references shift into more gloomy and dark rock territories, something that fits Sara Vian’s legendary vocals perfectly. Pete Vincent does magic once again on co-production and instrumental duties, delivering shiny acoustic guitars and warm piano tones, all steeped in a spacious, expansive aura.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Ghosts in The Sand’, the British duo explains: “‘Ghosts in the Sand’ is about a place of purgatory; a fantasy land where the undead live hence releasing it around All Souls Day.” Pursuing a quirky unique musical path, Judas Goat & the Bellwether seems destined for big things. We look forward to hearing more.
