Diversifying my musical tastes is ‘Dreamlines’, the experimental, leftfield, and highly intriguing single from Los Angeles-based artist and producer Seth Rosson, AKA No Language.
Atmospheric and ethereal, ‘Dreamlines’ is a five-minute sonic journey through morphed bass stabs, reverberated saxophone samples, and granular strings. Making use of analog synths, sparse arrangements, and unique percussion arrangements, Seth creates a tune that feels as if it originated from another universe.
Describing the track as a “restrained cinematic tension that invites the listener to develop the resolve in the chaos and status,” No Language turns to the likes of Jon Hopkins, Rival Consoles, and Indian Wells for inspiration. Boundary-pushing, untraditional, and deeply innovative, Seth bravely echoes the boldness of his influences while infusing his own vision into proceedings.
While undoubtedly not for everyone, ‘Dreamlines’ is an experience that challenges the listener, and that’s something we humans often push aside. It’s an invitation to break free from the cookie-cutter and formulaic sounds of the mainstream. Is it an acquired taste? Perhaps. But it’s also a musical odyssey of epic proportions!
