Imitation and Kazuhiro Takeuchi Share Leftfield Record ‘Time Rhymes’

We’ve already had the pleasure of getting familiar with Imitation, proudly celebrating ‘Any of It’ as “an evocative piece providing a riveting, magical listening experience”. The talented Hungarian duo has teamed up with notable produced Kazuhiro Takeuchi, blending their hazy and poignant storytelling with ethereal and ground-breaking sound designs, steeped in field recordings and leftfield artistry.

‘Time Rhymes’ is the resulting body of work, a compelling album showcasing all of the charisma and boldness enjoyed by Imitation and Takeuchi. Together, they have collected a series of field recordings from a whopping 18 (!) cities across Europe and Asia, creating a metaphorical and sonic bridge between the two continents – and at least between Budapest and Tokyo.

The record’s references are far and wide, spanning IDM, dream pop and avant-garde, all drenched in the project’s uniqueness and quirkiness. Speaking about ‘Time Rhymes’ – which also includes nuanced work by Tibor Fonay and Gabor “Tojas” Horvath – Imitation explain: “We wanted to hack our way out of perceptual filters. By manipulating familiar sounds in both subtle and dramatic ways, we’re creating moments of simultaneous déjà vu and jamais vu – a feeling of comfort mixed with disorientation.”
