A quick glance at her Spotify profile reveals Catlea as one very talented artistic force. Yes, their songs are incredibly good and well-produced – perfectly at home in the contemporary alt-pop landscape – but also, their lyrics are relatable and appealing. This is truly important, as it maintains the vast listenership the American creative has been steadily building over the past few years.
Following up on a string of singles released earlier this year (of which we proudly featured ‘Crumbling’), Catlea now unveils the last piece of the puzzle: ‘Bones’, a track that completes the final, homonymous EP. A true alt-pop bop, the track is particularly catchy and uplifting, boasting a chorus that’s vibrant and groovy. All in all, ‘Bones’ confirms the project’s constant tension between poignant, anthemic offerings and dancy, light bangers.
Lyrically, the song explores the painful and partly confusing experience when dealing with a breakup. While often necessary, doubts and fears set in to makes us wonder if that was a good decision. Catlea embraces such feelings, reminding herself that’s for the best. As she explains: “I may be lost right now, but I’m learning – and ready to move on.”
