‘Bang di Bang’ might appear like a playful, quirky tune on the surface, yet it contains a deep reference to modern geopolitics, the plights and pains of war, and the human instinct for egoistical violence. Penned by cyber-based, avatar band Energy Whores, the track carries all the elements that make their work notable. A groovy, electronic and eclectic instrumental, layered under charming and tongue-in-cheek vocals, is the perfect match for the group’s colourful ethos.
Featuring in the band, we find NRG on vocals, Kijani on bass, Suzumi on guitar and Luna on synth and beats. We have no idea about their real identities, or whether it is in fact a group of people or a solitary effort. Truth to be told, the mystery here is pretty charming and helps us enjoy what we are listening to. We have actually written about the project a fair bit in the past, but we feel they evolved quite a lot recently.
Still, check out our interview with them, where we get to know Carrie Schoenfield, a confirmed human behind the group. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Bang di Bang’, Energy Whores explain: “It is about all the bombs falling around the world. The absurdity of it all. It tries to convey in the video how it would feel to have a rocket hit your house with your kids in it.”
