I’m a massive fan of Andrew Bird, Japanese Breakfast, and Local Natives. It turns out…so too is Rose Rutledge! So, when the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter, flutist, and producer better known as Late Blooming unveiled her debut eponymous EP just ten days ago, I knew I had to dive in and give it a listen. Let’s swim its sonic oceans together, shall we?
A hypnotising and introspective journey into the artist’s late-blooming musical exploration, the five-track offering delivers a dark and moody atmosphere. Featuring airy, emotive flutes and some truly enchanting vocal performances, the EP is an invitation to explore the world around us and connect with our inner selves.
‘Everytime I’ begins proceedings in a mesmerizing fashion and sets the tone perfectly for what’s to come. Intriguing, immersive, impeccable. ‘Prelude (My Dreams)’ then steps up to the plate and offers a tranquil, almost meditative experience, before ‘My Dreams’ gives us the best example of Rose’s sweet and inviting vocals.
‘Prelude (Feet in the Sea)’ is unquestionably one of the most beautiful tunes I’ve ever come across, and we conclude with ‘Feet in the Sea’, the ideal song to end our adventure and return us to earth. A stellar EP from an outstandingly gifted musician!
