In the famous words of Monty Python…And now for something completely different. Please welcome Glasgow-based electronic musician Arkle, who recently unleashed his first vocal song ironically titled ‘Don’t Speak’.
A mind-bending and soul-melting piece of music, the six-and-a-half-minute track fuses nostalgic melodies and hypnotic beats into an eerie and ethereal soundscape that sticks to you like glue. Drawing inspiration from the 90s trip-hop movement and influences like Lamb and Four Tet, Arkle crafts a sonic experience that transports listeners to another realm.
A melancholic ode to lost love and the breakdown of a relationship, ‘Don’t Speak’ immerses you in a sea of feelings and emotions. We’re not quite sure who’s behind the vocals on the tune, but whoever they may be, their haunting delivery is the perfect match for the song’s poignant themes and introspective nature.
Self-recorded from beginning to end, ‘Don’t Speak’ has led me to discover sounds I wouldn’t typically explore. For that, I am extremely grateful to its creator, and I can’t wait to hear what they get up to next!
