It’s always rewarding to look out for a new Love Ghost record: the American talent is always busy at work, writing with fellow creatives around the US and Mexico. Crucially, almost all of his releases are collaboration, something that enhances the importance of bouncing ideas off fellow artists. It’s a framework that’s very effective, as Finnegan has showcased time and time again.
Now, Love Ghost returns with his latest effort, a gloomy and melancholic goth and industrial anthem packed with a charming emo-character and certain nostalgia (there’s a healthy amount of pop-punk into it). ‘Ski Mask’ also features Swedish producer and songwriter Skold, lending his long-standing expertise and guitar prowess to the Love Ghost cause. Coincidentally, the two have a collaborative upcoming album on the horizon – look out for it!
An intricate and reflective gem, ‘Ski Mask’ is highly introspective, as Love Ghost explains: “The lyrics touch on holding yourself and the world hostage to get what you think you desire. It is the sound of a civilization the day after losing the War”. Well, we might have lost the war, but we gained a fantastic record: check it out for yourself.
