We feel quite close to Twice Dark’s overall aesthetic. It is not a secret that here at Mesmerized we love anything retro, especially the synth-powered melancholic music emerging from Britain in the late 80s and early 90s. Twice Dark hails from Bloomington, Indiana, but his goals are the same: delving through synth pop, dark wave and anything in between.
Featuring a distinct gothic flair, ‘Telekinetic’ is the project’s latest effort, a nuanced and vibrant single anticipating the homonymous upcoming album. From a sonic standpoint, we feel that ‘Telekinetic’ does a great job of blending bright, uplifting melodies and stereotypical synthy ‘bells’ with darker textures and leftfield guitars. It’s the perfect marriage between mainstream 80s hits and gloomy, melancholic new wave.
Twice Dark’s deep and malleable vocals are a perfect match for such a cathartic arrangement, really supercharging the cathartic nature of the song. Going by the name Josh Kreuzman by day, the talented American creative seems to have found a precise and interesting sonic formula – and we are here for it.
