laughghter Unveils Leftfield and Cathartic EP ‘killing, grief and lies’

A leftfield and cathartic record, ‘killing, grief and lies’ is some of the most quirky and unique offerings we have come across in a while. Safe to say, we absolutely love it. Expansive and abstract, the EP seems to be aiming for a very particular artistic concept: blending meaningful Americana and Folk storytelling with an ethereal and dreamy guitar-powered sound, almost entering shoegaze territories. Hailing from London, laughghter is the talented two-piece outfit behind it.

It’s a largely beatless record, ‘Jarthief’ being the exception to the rule (and some more bits here and there). ‘Satan Stop The Wheel’ was unveiled as a single not long ago, and it did provide a pretty good summary of what we could expect from ‘killing, grief and lies’. ‘Body Violence’ opens the EP on the same theme, with slow-moving electric guitars and spacious, evocative vocals crowning it all. ‘Temple of Delight’ raises the intensity a little, reiterating the melancholic and nostalgic nature of the overall record.

‘Tarmac’ raises the intensity, taking us to more distorted gems such as ‘Murder Death Kill’ and the previously mentioned ‘Jarthief’. The listening experience at this point is perhaps a bit alienating: introspective and emotional, ‘killing, grief and lies’ will test your ability to withstand sadness and pain (figuratively, at least). Lucky for us, that’s our pain quotidien!
