An incredibly soothing and poignant offering, ‘Band of Angels’ is the illustrious comeback of Bay Area songstress Hilary Fonda Webb. Formerly known for her militance in the group Sweet Virginia, the talented singer and songwriter is now delving into solo project territories, channelling all her Americana and Country expertise into her latest album.
‘Band of Angels’ marks the focus track of the record (also sharing its name with the album). It’s the perfect business card for approaching Webb’s artistic universe. Her evocative and lush vocals are the perfect match for this wonderful acoustic-powered gem. Moving at a slow pace, the single delivers rich and meaningful storytelling, particularly aimed at celebrating the legacy of musician John Prine.
After receiving a cancer diagnosis, Hilary found the creative motivation to put her music out there once again. We are glad that’s happening: her vocal tone is incredibly magical and comforting, and in such dark times as the ones we are living in, heartwarming and relatable records are a gift from god.
