An elegant, classic take on Americana and alt-Country infused by traces of European Folk, ‘Turn a Blind Eye’ signals Bakersongs’ impressive and meaningful latest effort. Embarking on playful yet vivid storytelling, the Dutch project explores the difficulty a lot of us have when dealing with negative news, day after day. For some, it might be easier to turn a blind eye – as head honcho Ruud Bakker so eloquently sings – but likewise, there’s always value in keeping up the attention and global awareness.
Sonically, the single is rather simple; and we are using the adjective in its most positive connotation. Pure, unfiltered Americana goodness, which is a breath of fresh air in today’s industry landscape, packed with electronica and forward-thinking productions. Sometimes, going back to our roots feels decisively peaceful.
Speaking further about the lyrical concept behind ‘Turn a Blind Eye’, Bakker explains: “The chorus is of course meant ironically, in regards to everything that is going on in the world. It can also be interpreted in a way that gives you a bit more peace with looking the other way and not to concern yourself too much with the overwhelming amount of news that is shared with us daily.”
