David Cloyd Unveils Comeback Single ‘Ocean of Hours’

Sometimes they come back! Stephen King knew it well, as we do too here at Mesmerized. It’s always inspiring to witness talented creatives returning to making music, there’s often a sense of things coming full circle, getting back to one’s roots. David Cloyd does exactly that, jumping into the US national spotlight again, a good thirteen years after his 2011 single ‘Dear Boy’.

‘Ocean of Hours’ is Cloyd’s comeback single, and it certainly does a fantastic job for such a fragile role. A slow-burn, evocative anthem, the track finds its attractive identity in emotional indie stylings and guitar-powered euphoria, resulting in a piece that’s between a ballad and a slick rock-pop gem. Honestly, the arrangement is very detailed and nuanced, the perfect fit for David’s meaningful and authentic vocals.

We can notice that his tone has changed a little bit in all those years, but eventually, Cloyd’s signature touch is still there, as is his relatable and cathartic songwriting. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, he explains: “I’ve had to step back from the ‘artist’ part of me during these years, and that’s been hard too. That juxtaposition—the love of what I’ve been doing, and the ache of what I’ve been missing—is precisely what this album, and what the song ‘Ocean Of Hours,’ are about.”

Look out for the upcoming album ‘Red Sky Warning’, expected in early 2025 via ECR Music Group.
