Messy Eater Debuts with Bold Single ‘Feels Good’

Serving as an introductory single for Pete Bott’s latest musical incarnation, ‘Feels Good’ gives Messy Eater an irresistible sonic livery, a nuanced freshness that’s both nostalgic and futuristic. During past experiences (notably Heads We Dance and Arkley) the English musician and songwriter has been supported by a plethora of tastemakers and curators; there’s no doubt the newly unveiled project is certainly going to receive a wide number of praises too – how could it not be?

Let’s analyse ‘Feels Good’ with a closer look: first of all, there’s an overwhelming eclecticism in the piece, a melting pot of electronica, slick indie riff and dance-inducing grooves, taking the track into cathartic and evocative territories. Bott’s vocals are treated to a lo-fi filter, resembling staple acts such as Gorillaz, among others. The same lyrical playfulness and sonic boldness can in fact be found in both projects.

Featuring catchy and memorable songwriting, the song evokes a rooted sense of freedom and independence, like a fictional soundtrack for a cinematic reckoning. As the lyrics explain: “I feel so good as the weight it falls from my mind / all the downbeats and upbeats, teardrops and heartbeats – finally I’m alive”.
