Blindness & Light Return with Vibrant Single ‘Butterfly’

The keen reader might remember reading about British post-punk outfit Blindness & Light. Writing about a previous effort, ‘The Tannhäuser Gate’, we proudly described it as “a relaxing and calmative track that takes you on a dreamy sonic rollercoaster you wish didn’t have to end”. We stand by our words: although that single was by definition a one-off, in terms of style and references, one could easily notice the vibrancy and intensity that has informed the band since its beginnings.

‘Butterfly’ is Blindness & Light’s latest effort, a welcome return to their regular programming. Drenched in new wave-flavoured guitar tones and melodic vocals, the track greatly draws from indie and alt-rock territories, birthing a melancholic and nostalgic anthem with a rather powerful chorus. Crowning it all, we find the project’s head honcho Colin Potter, delving deep into his evocative and elegant vocals. The perfect fit for such an eclectic artistic formula.

The song’s lyricism is notable too, borrowing from Potter’s personal experience. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Butterfly’, he explains: “Broadly speaking this is about the death of my mother and ends with finally letting go. ‘Your body’s cold, your eyes are closed’, is the feeling I remember as my mother’s cold hand was in mine and her life had drained away.”

Look out for Blindness & Light’s upcoming album, expected in February 2025.
