Penned smack bang in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, ‘Sure Thing’ is an instrumental piece of brilliance finally seeing the light of day. Courtesy of renowned New York-based guitarist Andrea Longato, the six-and-a-half-minute epic is a masterful blend of rock, jazz, and funk. Introspective and deeply immersive, the tune is influenced by artists like Bill Frisell, Wayne Krantz, and Daniel Lanois, and showcases Longato’s ability to shift between genres and styles while maintaining a cohesive sonic identity.
“I find composing to be extremely therapeutic,” says Andrea. “I write most of my tunes as an effort to cope with a tough situation, or a feeling of sadness, and ‘Sure Thing’ is a good example of that”.
The talent to tell a story through music without uttering a single word has always fascinated me. And, as one of my favourite instrumental outfits, Aaronson, once wisely said, “You aren’t thematically contained by the limitations of lyrics”. How right they are!
Serving as the first glimpse from Longato’s upcoming full-length album ‘Thinking Heart’ and also a first glimpse into the very musician himself, ‘Sure Thing’ lays down a marker from a gifted artist whose record I cannot wait to hear!
