Tobias Hoffmann Jazz Orchestra Share Second Big Band Album ‘Innuendo’

You’re not wrong…we don’t feature a ton of jazz and big band. But I think it’s time to shake things up a little and get some more swing in our playlists now and then. With this in mind, please welcome the Tobias Hoffmann Jazz Orchestra, a stellar cast of musicians from Vienna, Graz, and Germany. Led by multi-award-winning saxophonist Tobias Hoffmann, the ensemble recently returned with a brand new album called ‘Innuendo’ which caught me off my guard in the best possible way. Let’s dive in!

Opening with the title track, ‘Innuendo’ pays homage to Queen. Capturing the multifaceted spirit of the legendary outfit, the tune has already been awarded “Best Composition” at the 47th Downbeat Student Music Awards.

‘Summer Solstice’ is a dramatically wonderful piece of music featuring an outstanding trombone solo from Simon Harrer. The track stands out from the record’s more complex and modern pieces – but still retains that signature Hoffmann style.

To describe ‘No Way Back’ in one word…Intricate. The ten-minute extravaganza feels like an outpouring of emotions. Admittedly inspired by artists like Alex Sipiagin, Chris Potter, and Dave Holland, Tobias and Co. deliver a masterclass in jazz fusion.

With five more tunes left to discover, I urge you to indulge in the sonic adventure that awaits. A truly remarkable album from beginning to end.

Serious album alert! Enjoy ‘Innuendo’ on Spotify now:
