We’ll be honest, we don’t usually receive records as raw and authentic as ‘Time Out Of Mind’. Al Shalliker’s latest single, the track is sort of minimalistic, yet incredibly vivid and electrifying. Built on charming bluesy and rockabilly stylings, the piece finds its strong identity in an acoustic guitar, a wonderful harmonica, a bass and Shalliker’s deep, evocative vocal tone. Tony Davies and Alex McGinnes are the wonderful musicians joining the project.
Taken from the project’s upcoming album ‘The Diamond Hill’, ‘Time Out Of Mind’ signals a new phase for the English troubadour. Embracing a leaner sonic formula, the Plymouth-based creative leaves ample space for lyrical storytelling, fully diving into the richness of human life. The vocal delivery is playful at times, highlighting Shalliker’s artistic versatility.
Boasting a long militance in the notable British group Watershed, Al has certainly found fresh inspiration with his solo project, birthing a record that’s perhaps traditional and vintage, but always relevant.
