Don’t you love discovering new bands? We do! This time around we came across a group that has been navigating the industry for a while, amassing raging reviews and causing a little stir in sector media. Also, we’ll admit, we should have known about them long ago, our mistake! Anyway, all is good now, we have finally found out about The Magic Es, and we are not letting them escape. The Norwich-based outfit champions a peculiar brand of soft rock, exploring pop melodies and friendly guitars, resulting in very digestible and gritty material, able to connect with a wide audience.
The Magic Es’ latest effort takes the shape of ‘Gone’, a groovy, pensive gem focusing on the flowing of life. The first release of 2022, the track wants to signal the group’s return, ahead of an EP releasing just before Christmas.
Introduced by a mellow drum beat, light keys and vocals, ‘Gone’ starts quietly, slowly evolving into a glorious rock anthem, perhaps made to be sung aloud in big arena shows. We can also appreciate Thompson’s lead vocals, bright, evocative and drawn to high-pitched toplines. The whole track assumes an empowering quality, offering solace to those who need it. Describing the meaning behind the song, the talented singer explains: “I wrote this song during lockdown following the passing of a couple of people who I was very close to once upon a time. The song is ultimately about wishing you were there to support people during their most troubling times and knowing, once they’ve gone, there was so much more you could have done if you weren’t wrapped up in your own life.”
