NYRE Shares Vibrant Alt-Pop Anthem ‘It Should Be You’

People don’t know this, but there’s a very precise art behind good pop songs. NYRE seems to have decoded the secret formula for it, constantly releasing expansive pop gems with a mainstream outlook. Writing about her previous effort ‘You Didn’t Mean It’, we proudly declared it “extremely contemporary and fresh”. Now, the Canadian songstress embraces a stronger synth-pop direction, unveiling the playful and relatable banger ‘It Should Be You’.

Built on an expansive and vibrant alt-pop production, courtesy of Jonathan Karkar, ‘It Should Be You’ oscillates between synth-powered richness and apparent minimalism. While choruses explode into a tapestry of textures and lush harmonies, verses are somewhat more intimate, leaving ample space for NYRE’s evocative and malleable vocals. The Toronto-based creative is the perfect fit for such a catchy and nuanced song.

Delving into heartbreak and the nostalgia of old flames, ‘It Should Be You’ is a delightful yet intense lyrical journey into human experience. As NYRE explains: “It is about the emotional ambushes that happen long after a relationship ends—the way a scent, a song, or a favourite food can suddenly bring everything crashing back. It’s a reflection on how these small triggers can leave you reeling, even when you’ve worked so hard to move on.”
