Do you remember what we said earlier this year, about Saves The Witch? We wrote, “If post-rock sonic explorations are your thing, you’ll be glad to have discovered the project”. We stand by that: the American musician has long showcased his compositional prowess, balancing his artistic output between hard distortion and softer tones. In fact, we’d argue that the constant contrast between mellowness and chaos is what makes the music so appealing.
Luckily, the Southport, NC-based creative has just released his third album, ‘Fine Machines’. It includes the previously released single ‘Abeam The Intrepid’ while expanding the sonic discourse in favours of post-rock and metal stylings. ‘Once Upon a Bomb Shelter’ will provide a soothing refuge from gritty and harsh tones, with its clean guitars and slow-moving identity. In fact, the album starts fiercely and loses intensity as it goes along, a common trait in Saves The Witch’s catalogue.
Partly instrumental, ‘Fine Machines’ is very likely to be dissected for different uses: some of its tracks aid introspection, and others could be played in a car while going to a rock concert. Whatever your thing is, the American musician can probably cater for it. That’s the beauty of such an eclectic project.
