The keen reader might remember Swiss songstress Claudia Balla. Writing about one of her previous efforts, ‘White Birds’, we proudly described it as “mellow and gentle as it could be, offering a slice of emotional resilience and acceptance”. Clearly, Balla knows how to deliver a listening experience that’s cathartic and meaningful. Well, this time around she takes us into slightly punchier territories, with ‘Normal People’.
Shifting the script, the single blends Claudia’s evocative songwriting prowess with a groovier and brighter chorus, although still packed with melancholic and nostalgic energy. This might be the best of both worlds: we get Balla’s elegant vocals together with an uplifting pop flair, something that will likely expose the project to a bigger audience.
One of our favourite discoveries, Claudia Balla is obviously on her way to big things. Followed by a large audience on social media, it’s only a question of time till the Swiss talent reaches international fame. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, she explains: “an ode to every dreamer and misfit who has ever wondered why they can’t be like everyone else”.
