Adrian Brockless Unveils Strings Piece ‘Da Sealkie Wife’s Sang’

Sometimes, music is a life-long commitment. For Adrian Brockless, that was clear since the beginning. Born into a deeply talented artistic family (his father Brian was a well-known figure in the British classical scene), Adrian wasted no time, embarking on classical studies and becoming a prolific, notable composer. Based in the quaint and bucolic Shetland, Brockless was recently able to work on ‘Da Sealkie Wife’s Sang’, adapting a local traditional folk tune by Mary-Ellen Odie.

The recording of that endeavour is now sent to us, performed by Aberdeen quintet Orchestra Nova. Needless to say, Adrian transforms ‘Da Sealkie Wife’s Sang’ into a highly poignant and evocative piece, arranging a plethora of strings towards a common goal: evoking a reaction in the listeners. That’s exactly what happens once you listen to it.

Born as a birthday gift for Brockless’ mother, ‘Da Sealkie Wife’s Sang’ took on a life of its own, deservedly so. Looking forward to hearing more from the British composer!
