It’s great to see Magz back! A truly talented songwriter and producer, the NYC-based creative has extensively showcased her artistic worth in the past few years, crafting stunning electro-pop pieces with futuristic and poignant flair. Now, the rising songstress returns to the international music scene, unveiling an impressive EP that marks the project’s maturity.
‘This Won’t Be Pretty’ features past single ‘Disappoint Me’ and newbies ‘Sugar in my coffee’ and ‘You First’. The sonic and lyrical depth is notable, with Magz borrowing from mainstream pop and pushing it all into a slightly darker direction. Saturated vocals and eclecticism are a constant commonality, with the American artist’s lush vocals being the final boss in what’s an enjoyable and catchy listening experience.
This is a really good pop EP, which is a harder achievement than it sounds. Evidently, Magz has been working constantly at her craft, and honestly, the material in ‘This Won’t Be Pretty’ is world-class. Our favourite is ‘Sugar in my coffee’: nostalgic and melancholic, just like we love it.
