Succubee Shares Playful Effort ‘nine lives’

Boasting shiny and quirky artistry, Succubee places herself between an e-girl and a goth icon, making music that’s a perfect reflection of such an interesting formula. ‘nine lives’ sees her engage in playful, lo-fi stylings, this time delivered with a distinct anime/Japanese-like character. Built on minimal hyper-pop tones and feel-good melodies, the track is certainly one of the most peculiar records we have listened to this year.

It is indeed not for everyone: resembling a soundtrack, or what we would call ‘Youtube music’, ‘nine lives’ features a tiny and smiley synth sound, together with bouncy beats and catchy, children-oriented melodies. The result is a short yet intense listening experience, one that will probably appeal the most to gamers and Redditors – although it’s perfectly relatable for everyone.

The Succubbe brand seems to be pretty strong, and if the American creative plays her card right, she could easily become an internet sensation. Although, we‘d recommend staying away from the lo-fi field and moving towards more digital, e-girl-type pieces. Describing the inspiration behind the record, Succubee eloquently explains: “Slunking cats and chasing laser beams”.
