Transcending Into the Unknown Share Latest Effort ‘Chronos’

The keen reader will gladly remember Norwegian prog-rock outfit Transcending Into the Unknown; hailing from Norway, the band last enlightened us with ‘Giants’, a single we described as “showcasing a certain eclecticism, a genre-bending flavouring that makes it quite friendly towards neighbouring genres such as hard rock and metal.” We were right about how eclectic the project is: ‘Chronos’ is the group’s latest effort, and it sure opens up the sonic inspiration.

Introduced by a melodic, mellow section, ‘Chronos’ showcases Transcending Into the Unknown’s ability to phase out guitar distortions, even just for a couple of minutes. Elegant and emotional, the record evolves among orchestral soundscapes and charming female vocals (courtesy of Eva Halsetrønning Rambraut). It doesn’t last long: Filip, Robert and Stian Dahl soon return to their roots, evoking hard rock and metal stylings and screamy vocal tones.

A familiar affair (all members are related), Transcending Into the Unknows ends ‘Chronos’ like they started, using a lighter sound and a long, complex guitar solo. Here, we can appreciate the musical prowess the group has to offer. They are really good players, and it shows.
