Svynx’s New Album ‘This Is Not Art’ is a Progressive Rock Tour de Force

Pushing the boundaries of progressive rock to the limit, ‘This Is Not Art’ is the killer new album from Cologne-based duo Svynx. Comprised of Wolfgang Füßenich and Tobias Lübbers, the pair have crafted a mind-bending sonic journey that defies convention at every turn, so let’s dive straight in!

‘Art Won’t Save Me Now’ gets the ball rolling thunderously, and expertly sets the tone for the rest of the record. Hard-hitting and seriously inventive, it’s a tune reminding us that actions are needed for real change to happen. ‘Follow Me’ then steps up to the plate and evokes, at least instrumentally, memories of The Mars Volta’s early work. Experimental, absorbing, and utterly captivating.

‘Harvest Season’ offers a dark and shadowy atmosphere before ‘Feed Me’ returns us right back to the progressive and artful sounds, pulling the listener further into Svynx’s mesmerizing sonic landscape.

While ‘Europa,’ ‘Never At Ease,’ and ‘Alexandria,’ could quite literally have an essay’s worth of analysis each, they are three tracks that I think you should dive into yourself to uncover their many hidden layers. All I’ll say is that ‘This Is Not Art’ is fast becoming one of my favourite albums of the year! Just stellar from start to finish!
