We love writing about abstract records. There’s just so much room for interpretation and personal experience, in turn making it more rewarding on a spiritual level. You see, ‘Variance’ is not an album with experimental electronic pieces per sé. Rather, it represents a fragment of LateNightBeatFeast’s sonic exploration.
Moving among leftfield tones, long soundscapes and noisy textures, the record wraps the listeners into an obscure, gloomy journey, one that’s bound to spark imagination and introspection. It is described as “a nostalgic drift between genres” by its author, the Cambridge-based creative. It also follows up on ‘Intelligent Hallucinations/Hallucinate Intelligence’, released earlier this year.
Featuring eleven fierce tracks, ‘Variance’ finds its main character in deep, gritty basslines, crepuscular percussions and an overall dark and hazy contour. Keen music lovers will happily lose themselves in the album’s intricate eclecticism. From ‘Whisper’ to ‘Adapt’, the intensity shifts from prominent to intimate, even evolving into brighter offerings, such as ‘Friday’.
