Jorge Natalin Shares Experimental Gem ‘Blue Overtone Monkey’

Fuzzy, intense and hypnotising: ‘Blue Overtone Monkey’ is certainly a record that attracts attention. Highly eclectic and quirky, the track blends glitchy and distorted guitar tones with long soundscapes and noisy sound design, all layered against a cathartic and evocative spoken word performance by Dutch artist Hilarius Hofstede. Jorge Natalin is the driving force behind the record.

Hailing from Amsterdam, Natalin describes himself as making “experimental guitar techno”, and it’s certainly true. If we had to integrate that, we’d say that ‘Blue Overtone Monkey’ is also quite psychedelic, exhibiting a strong post-rock energy. Punchy beats and gritty basslines are the perfect companions for Jorge’s guitar action.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the release, Natalin explains: “The vocals for this genre-bending psychedelic club track were recorded in one inspired session on a rainy Dutch morning in Amsterdam and talk about a necessary giant transformation, indeed the one in which the world finds itself today.” Perhaps not a record for everyone, ‘Blue Overtone Monkey’ is a rare find, and we appreciate the willingness to explore alternative paths.
