Why is every Khemet McConville record so good? We are pretty familiar with the project, having previously written about ‘I Look Through Your Window’. At the time, we proudly declared it “an elegant, slowly-moving gem”, something that was perhaps quite reductive given how special and cathartic it all felt. Lucky for us, McConville has just released another vibrant and luscious banger, this time giving it a tad more groove…
‘Your Mother Said’ finds its hypnotising identity in contemporary neo-soul, vintage funk and classic R&B, blending it all together into a soulful, captivating gem with incredible drum grooves, immersive saxophone solos and collective vocals. The record is pretty playful, while still being chilled and relaxing – although its bassline might urge you to stand up on your feet and start dancing.
Another songwriting masterclass from Khemet McConville, an artist who honestly deserves to be bigger than he currently is. We are confident it’s just a matter of time. But don’t trust our words, give it a go yourself! As we are told: “The track is a nursery rhyme-esque sing-along, with strong gospel overtones.”
