[Published on 19th August 2024] – We are in awe of the softness contained in ‘You’re Not Coming’. Packed with cathartic energy and evocative, luscious vocals, the track is Shivani Sen’s latest effort, a slice of heart-warming nostalgia and veiled melancholia. A rather simple offering – at least on the surface – ‘You’re Not Coming’ finds its sonic character over an expansive yet stripped-back pop ballad arrangement, slowly growing into a cinematic gem.
Sen’s nuanced and vibrant vocals find their true calling in the myriad of harmonies making the song’s outro incredibly ethereal and anthemic. Overall, the single is a fairly intimate and personal offering, with Shivani sharing a tale of human love and understanding sprinkled with regrets and heartbreak. Lyrically, it’s a near-perfect song. Not a surprise, when taking into account Sen’s success in traditional media: her debut poetry collection ‘To the Homes that We Are’ is stocked at the Common Press in Shoreditch, London.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘You’re Not Coming’, Sen explains: “It tells a story of migration, finding love in a new city and the power of hope in the face of heartbreak”.
