Last time we wrote about Desperate Electric we were busy praising their single ‘Future Mommy’. Truthfully, it was really good – that’s why we proudly declared it “a quirky and curious offering, a brilliant pop tune”. We stand by our words: the American duo is certainly showcasing their musical prowess, especially regarding slick and vibrant songwriting.
Latest effort ‘Gimme’ reiterates all of that; built over a groovy and uplifting instrumental, the record indulges in retro disco stylings, while still appealing to the modern mainstream. Alternating between spoken words and enchanting singing, ‘Gimme’ is a dynamic and luscious piece, the perfect match for the tail-end of summer. A particular shout-out goes to the horn section, here very present with a Miami-flavoured melody (and sax+trumpet solos at the end…).
Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, Desperate Electric explain: “‘Gimme’ is the perfect song to get you shimmying on the boat. Or in the club. Or in the kitchen making margaritas. It’s really just the ultimate summer shimmy song. It’s not deep and it’s not intense. It’s fun and sassy and it feels good.”
