sad films Share Hazy and Nuanced EP ‘Exchange Pleasantries’

Painting himself as a lone superhero, could Manchester indie outfit sad films be the saviour we were waiting for? Well, if the help you need is some good music, he’s got you covered. ‘Exchange Pleasantries’ is his latest effort, an eclectic and nuanced journey into lush guitar tones and dreamy electronic synths, all drenched in sad films’ comprehensive and culturally relevant lyricism.

Known by day as Dan Lucas, the Salford-based creative finds joy in malleable melodies and anthemic choruses, although they are always dressed in leftfield goo, retaining their cool and fresh character. That’s consistent with sad films’ nonchalant vocal delivery – like it’s no big deal, the project hypnotises listeners far and wide.

Featuring five tracks, ‘Exchange Pleasantries’ is deeper than you think, both in its songwriting and production. Final episode ‘Tokyo (Jet Lag Diary Entry #1)’ is the biggest evidence of that, with its many textures and shoegaze-like guitars.
