Priced Out Share Raw and Fierce Punk EP ‘Four Songs’

‘Four Songs’ is certainly one of the rawest, lo-fi punk records we have received this year. Throwing it back to the cassette-home-studio days of the late 90s, Canadian outfit Priced Out delivers four tracks with a barebone sonic identity. Of course, in this case, it’s done on purpose; refraining from following hype-catching industry trends, the group pursues its own path, a path that goes through fierce and gloomy guitar riff, boxy and maniac drums, and expressive, leftfield vocals.

There’s a good reason for that: ‘Four Songs’ is highly dependent on its rebellious and deep lyricism, here aimed at the way society keeps everyone into a toxic flow of personal entitlement and lack of opportunities. Fighting for a potential ‘red pill’, Priced Out showcases their uniquely alternative sonic character, yet fully communicating their quirky identity.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, the Vancouver-based band explain: “These songs were written out of frustration and desperation at seeing how easily people tend to punch down and ignore their own best interests in the process. We are told to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, when what people really need is more opportunity. More support. More empathy”.
