We have been following Sidney Gordon’s artistic journey for a while now. Back in July, we were proud to be featuring ‘Flirt With Disaster’, a haunting yet empowering electro-pop anthem showcasing all the magnitude of the NYC resident’s talent. The record attracted a wider audience, together with intense attention from media and industry actors. It acted as a sort of ‘springboard’ for Gordon’s career, together with previous single ‘Chain’ which gained her features on iHeart Radio and Sirius XM, among others.
With such momentum, it was only a matter of time before new music was due. Finally, last week, ‘Obsessed’ came around. As you would expect, it contains all of Sydney’s strong points: exciting, sultry vocals and an energetic, fierce instrumental, transporting the listener on a dazzling journey between punchy beats, synth arpeggios and distorted guitars. The expert production provides the perfect backdrop where Gordon’s charming, intense vocals can flourish, delivering catchy melodies and a chorus that’s frankly quite irresistible.
Lyrically, we are in relationship territory, with the American singer recalling a past, troubling experience. As she describes: “I wrote ‘Obsessed’ when I was in a relationship with someone I was so into that it had become unhealthy. The relationship wasn’t balanced and it was driving me crazy how unpredictable it was”. Well, I think we can all relate to that on different levels!
