Watching Carson Aday‘s musical evolution has been a fascinating journey. The Texas-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist first caught my attention last year with his hauntingly beautiful single ‘Chest Pain’. Then came ‘Molly’, ‘Fade Away’, and ‘Time Will Heal’, and his sound evolved and expanded. Now, with the release of ‘The Hope I Gave You’, he’s almost sonically unrecognisable from our first introduction, but the essence of his artistry remains as compelling as ever.
As undoubtedly his rockiest release to date, ‘The Hope I Gave You’ sees Carson turning to acts like The Strokes, Remo Drive, and Hippo Campus for inspiration. Upbeat, infectious, and deeply engaging, it’s the perfect blend of his signature emotional depth with a high-octane and exhilarating sound. It captures a new dimension of his musical persona – one that we’re extremely excited about going forward.
As for the meaning behind the track, Carson says that “‘The Hope I Gave You’ circles around the blend of pleasant and painful emotions sprouting from the memories of a past relationship, sparked by seeing an ex’s new boyfriend on social media”. A sadly all too familiar feeling, his ability to deliver compelling music with a universal theme is the genius of his work.
