Nelda Gears Up for Upcoming Album with ‘Inbetween Two Worlds’

There is nothing more satisfying than jazz interpreted with a modern sensibility. That’s exactly the case of London-based songstress Nelda; a familiar face in our publication, she’s a figure deeply invested in the meaning behind her art. ‘Inbetween Two Worlds’ is her latest effort, another piece of the puzzle belonging to the project’s upcoming album.

Written in the context of voluntary displacement, the record “is a result of my heuristic research and practice as the final project for my masters” – Nelda explains. Sonically, it’s built on stunning Jazz stylings, drenched in evocative, luscious vocals. She reminds us of the likes of Gretchen Parlato, among others. Her musical prowess is seriously impressive, and when paired with the nuanced and deep ethos behind the whole project, it reveals Nelda as a truly artistic being.

Referencing the sensation of being divided between a physical and a hidden world, ‘Inbetween Two Worlds’ seeks to express the fleeting state of transitions that we are all somehow subjected to – in particular referring to the practice of ‘morning pages’, writing down unfiltered thoughts first thing in the morning.
