Formerly a member of Baltimore outfit June Pastel, singer and multi-instrumentalist Toto Peña has always had a pretty interesting artistic flair when it comes to music, constantly exploring the lines between hazy indie matter and relatable pop lyricism. ‘FUELT4NK’ confirms it all again, layering nuanced and lo-fi vocals on top of a nostalgic blend of surf-pop and indie extravaganza.
Perfectly fitting our smokey and vaporous modern times – where no truth is actually a truth – ‘FUELT4NK’ paints a hypnotising picture, especially thanks to Peña’s ephemeral and dreamy delivery. “Is the record even real, or did I just imagine it?” That’s the questions listeners will be most likely to ask themselves.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘FUELT4NK’, Toto explains: “A song dedicated to the world. A nice and simple tune that doesn’t take you to 5 other sections. It’s utilitarian in the sense that its function is for the listener to be able to blast driving down the freeway while enjoying the sun.” Look out for a Spanish version to be released soon, together with Peña upcoming album this fall.
