Influenced by the work of The Cranberries, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, and Big Thief comes Chicago-based singer/songwriter Jane Hobson and her dynamic sophomore album ‘Attic Days’. An eight-track offering rooted in post-punk, indie-rock, and alternative folk, ‘Attic Days’ is wonderfully eclectic and original. Detailing her journey from college in Ohio to an attic apartment in Chicago, the record dives into themes of relationships, breakups, and the general endeavour of finding one’s feet in the big wide world.
‘Chelsea’ gets proceedings underway with a big and bold sound. Angsty and honest and featuring some stellar guitar work, it sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album.
‘Not My Medicine’ follows in a similar sonic vein to ‘Chelsea’, before ‘Eat Me Up’ takes things down a notch with a swayful and laidback presence that beautifully showcases Jane’s versatility as an artist.
Other personal favourites from the record include the delicate little gem ‘Liar Liar’ and the thought-provoking and hard-hitting closing tune ‘Where TF Am I’. Truthfully, however, the entire album deserves to be savoured track by track. It’s a splendid offering from a supremely talented musician, and I can’t wait to hear from Jane Hobson and Co. again!
