Little is known about Belgium-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jellyka. We know he began his music career in the early 90s and collaborated with a major band all over Europe…but that’s about it. What we do know, however, is that he’s just released his debut single in the form of ‘Paper Game’, a dark and mysterious piece of music that features an exceptionally talented but unnamed female vocalist.
“Although a topline and lyrics are there when I write the track, nothing is set in stone,” says Jellyka. “The vocalist’s input gives me a creative boost that can lift the track to another level”.
‘Paper Game’ is immersive and hypnotic. It’s unpretentious too, captivating the listener with its understated yet powerful presence. Enigmatic and even a little ominous, there’s a magnetic quality to the tune that makes it simply impossible to ignore.
“I don’t make music to feed my ego,” says Jellyka. “I’m a socially awkward penguin and I make music because I don’t like to talk”.
We can only hope this is just the beginning of a distinguished musical project. I have a feeling it very well might be.
