Built on groovy and playful R&B stylings, ‘SHE’ sees Irish storyteller and singer Joe Lington embarking on an introspective journey around our modern world’s chronic lack of commitment. Delivering a series of meaningful, tongue-in-cheek gems, the album configures itself as a monumental concept piece, featuring a whopping twenty tracks. Not all of them are equal: some might be light, dancy bangers, others incredibly poignant and relevant spoken word pieces – others feature a certain theatrical flair, helping the listeners identify with the subject matter.
The overarching idea is simple yet hard-hitting, and very in line with our modern times. Delving into the complex relationship landscape, Lington reflects on the ‘social media effect’, where loyalty has been exchanged for instant gratification and for a constant ‘grass is greener’ approach. As the Irish artist explains: “Nowadays, it seems that as soon as things become difficult, we tend to leave rather than sticking it out. Relationships are no longer seen as a long-term investment, but rather a temporary indulgence”.
Keen to find a solution and identify a potential path forward, Joe continues: “But what happens when we leave relationships and art unfinished? Do we miss out on the beauty of the journey, the growth, and the fulfilment that comes from persevering through the challenges?”
