We are certainly familiar with Dutch drummer and composer d’Z. Writing about his previous effort ‘Something New’, we proudly declared “It doesn’t happen every day to be able to write about such an eclectic and virtuoso piece”. Well, we stand by our words: the project is a slice of unmatched musical charisma, propped up by the highest level of musicianship and a team of incredible musicians.
For all our listening pleasure, d’Z now returns with his latest effort, the charming and elegant George Michael cover ‘Freedom’. Built over funk and soul styling with a hint of fusion, the track benefits from the collaboration with 2-time Grammy Nominee Sandra St. Victor, lending her evocative and frankly impressive vocals to an already glowing piece of music. A stunning and advanced horn section helps the record reach higher territories.
Speaking about the process behind recording and arranging ‘Freedom’, d’Z explains: “I’ve heard that covers can help to gain new fans. So, I decided to record my first and last cover. My only rule was to completely rebuild an existing tune by creating a different vibe, different harmonies, using various instruments, and arranging it for a female instead of a male singer”.
