It took us a while to get the hang of it. ‘Tsunamical’ is such a radical, dazzling piece of electronic pop that it takes the listener by surprise, spearheaded by Maple Bee’s fierce and icy vocals and Zac Kuzmanov’s fuzzy, punchy production, incredibly nuanced and vibrant. Together, the pair call themselves Moontwin, a project that’s equally unique yet nostalgic and drenched in tradition.
The way ‘Tsunamical’ introduces itself in the first verse is most iconic; built on a frozen harmonic landscape, the track summons early 2010’s distorted synth tones and groovy, yet chaotic drum machine beats, making for a record that’s vibrant and engaging, a true slice of euphoria. Maple Bee’s vocal delivery is absolutely perfect, resembling that sense of mystery and resolution that’s a great match with the lyricism around it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Tsunamical’, Moontwin explains: “In this realm, there is no point fighting the inevitable power of feeling, … an awesome strength and unbridled fearlessness unfettered by time, space, and physical limitation. Truth exists in the unstoppable, vertigo-inducing power of the ‘Tsunami Inside’ each of us, which Moontwin conjures and celebrates”.
