Combining the dreamy bliss of Slowdive with the minimalist beauty of Sigur Rós, Los Angeles-based act Mountains of Jura have blown me away with their second full-length album. Self-titled just like their first record, the band chooses to let their music speak for itself, and boy does this new album have a lot to say!
Featuring seven mesmerizing tunes with a runtime of forty-four minutes, the record is truly more of a profound musical odyssey through soundscapes and emotions than a simple anthology of songs. Through psychedelic shoegaze, progressive rhythms, and haunting melodies, Mountains of Jura has concocted an ethereal and boundary-pushing album that immerses the listener in a surreal musical landscape.
Be it ‘Old Leon’ or ‘The Cave’, ‘Ocelot Path’ or ‘Oracle’, every single track unfolds like a chapter in an epic sonic narrative. Carefully crafted and expertly shaped, the moody compositions evoke a deep sense of introspection and wonder, something the world could use more of in today’s troubled times.
A monumental record from a highly gifted bunch of musicians, Mountains of Jura’s latest offering is one I can see myself returning to often. I look forward to diving into their previous release.
