Bones in Butter Return with Psychedelic New Album ‘Cosmopolis’

At the very beginning of this year, I fell in love with an album called ‘Songs for a Sane Society’. Courtesy of Serbian act Bones in Butter, the hypnotic sonic adventure just hit all the right notes! I’ve been patiently waiting to hear from the eclectic and lively bunch again, and just a few days ago, they answered my call. Let me introduce you to ‘Cosmopolis’, the band’s new record.

A thirteen-track offering that reintroduces the act’s blend of chewy psychedelic rock, ‘Cosmopolis’ showcases Bones in Butter’s musical evolution while maintaining their signature sound.

‘You Just Drowned’ sets the scene perfectly for what’s to come with a dark and atmospheric ambience, before ‘Dumped’ comes in with a post-punkish vibe and some exceptional guitar work. ‘A New Generation, Pt. II’ tells a tale of the grisliness of perpetual war, while the energetic ‘Skunks!’ speaks to opportunism and immortality.

Other favourites from the album include the bouncy ‘Transform’, the glistening ‘Are We Dead Yet?’, and the downright beautiful closer ‘Escape’. Similarly, however, to ‘Songs for a Sane Society’, ‘Cosmopolis’ is best absorbed from beginning to end. It’s another special record from a highly gifted band.
