There’s a lot to discover in ‘Abandon’. A long, 10-track album, the record is as eclectic as it could. Going from dark and obscure indie pieces to playful fuzzy rock, passing through nuanced lyricism and anthemic melodies, ‘Abandon’ is first and foremost an artistic manifesto – the creative journey of The Local 12, New Jersey-based group with a myriad of identities and inspirations.
Balancing between piano interludes and rockier sections, the band crafts a series of long offerings (many towards the five-minute mark) which are as hard-hitting as they are meaningful. One thing we appreciate about it all, is The Local 12’s ability to measure their distortions, leaving ample space for Dave Iannucci’s malleable and evocative lead vocals.
Dan Ream, Pat Ream and Eric Bailey complete a talented lineup. Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Abandon’, they explain: “There is a lyrical theme throughout the album that touches variations of abandonment, whether it be temporarily or permanently abandoning a relationship, acknowledging an intensifying feeling of abandonment, or abandoning something within yourself – the way you think, act, or react”.
