Joni Butler is the brains behind shirehead, a solo musical project currently based in Canada, though influenced by life growing up in the countryside of the UK. Having just released his debut single ‘im done.’, Joni invites listeners into the introspective world of shirehead.
Featuring lo-fi guitar work, upbeat drums, and driving basslines, ‘im done.’ exudes a dark yet empowering energy that is impossible to ignore. Offering a fresh take on the sounds of 80s and early 2000s British indie-rock, it’s a tune that truly stands out in today’s musical landscape of cookie-cutter and formulaic sounds.
Influenced at a young age by bands like Joy Divison, The Cure, Fugazi, and childhood favourite Moby, shirehead skillfully blends these diverse inspirations into a refreshing and dynamic sound. Nostalgically rich and innovatively contemporary, excitement is brewing around the artist’s upcoming album ‘ROLL THE DICE’.
Scheduled for release sometime later this year, Joni says that the record “crosses post-punk with mathy emo guitar that will have listeners confused but begging for more”. Self-produced, mixed, and mastered by shirehead, it’s an album we can’t wait to sink our teeth into!
