‘Into The Night’ is an EP that I’ve honestly been dying to share with you all, and today I am finally able to! Courtesy of Brisbane-based singer/songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Drew Russell, his debut EP is a six-track smorgasbord of sounds and styles. From country and folk to class rock and bluegrass, Drew fuses various influences to form a harmonious blend that captivates from start to finish. Eclectic, refreshing, and adventurous, ‘Into The Night’ is an absolute stunner!
‘No Time For Lizards’ is a hypnotic forty-five-second opener and sets the scene beautifully for what’s to come. ‘Deliverance’ then steps up, a modern bluegrassy gem that has already seen major radio play all across Australia, highlighting Russell’s unique style and earning him a fresh set of admirers.
‘Broken Tape’ is an infectious and upbeat little tune that, interestingly, sees Drew making use of 432hz tuning instead of the usual 440hz. A nuance that might pique the interest of those who are more musically savvy.
‘Every Little Bleed’, ‘Take A Stand’, and the EP’s title track make up the remainder of ‘Into The Night’, and each brings its own soul and flavour to the party. A record of the highest order, I cannot recommend Drew Russell more, especially for listeners who revel in diverse and meticulously crafted music.
