Borka Balogh Shares Melancholic EP ‘Disposable’

We didn’t know what to expect from ‘Disposable’. Featuring hazy and melancholic imagery, the album is wrapped in mysterious energy, exuding a misty, cloudy character that perfectly compliments Borka Balogh’s evocative, elegant vocals. Delving into the record, we were greeted by a stunning sonic formula built on nostalgic dream pop and leftfield alt-folk styling. Ethereal vocal harmonies, cryptic soundscapes and a drum/guitar carpet are certainly a winning concoction, especially in relation to Borka’s nuanced and honest songwriting.

‘Disposable’ opens the EP with a mystic acoustic guitar, only to then slowly introduce orchestral elements, making for a decisively cathartic listening experience. ‘Harvest’ turns into a dreamier, hazier lane, championing shoegaze influences and gritty synthetisers. From this point on, the record continues on the same themes, in a triumph of emotional, heart-wrenching artistry.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the EP, Balogh explains: “a wildly honest and unapologetic indie pop ode to trauma that humans have to face while becoming of age”. Drenched in personal experience, the lyricism found in ‘Disposable’ perfectly matches its sonic counterpart.
